Celestica Reports Monday Into a Derated Chip Market

Markets don’t need a bad quarter from Celestica. They only need a good one that isn’t good enough. That is the context Monday night’s report carries, and it is the context last week’s Lam Research selloff created. On October 21, Lam posted its first-ever 40% operating margin and $8.22 billion in revenue. The stock fell about 7%-8% after hours as CFO Doug Bettinger flagged supply chain constraints that capped the December-quarter outlook. By October 22’s open, the PHLX Semiconductor Index was down about 4%. Marvell and AMD were down mid-single digits, not 8%. That is the sector CLS is reporting into.

The Numbers

Wall Street consensus for Q3 sits at approximately $5.4 billion in revenue and adjusted EPS near $2.94. Celestica’s own July guidance called for $5.25-$5.55 billion in revenue and $2.88-$3.08 in adjusted EPS. Consensus is near the top of that range.

The Q2 result provides the baseline: revenue of $4.70 billion, up 62% year-over-year, and adjusted EPS of $2.54 against a $2.29 consensus. The company then raised its full-year 2026 outlook to $20.5 billion in revenue and $11.30 in adjusted EPS. Beat number nine tonight must also clear a guidance bar elevated by weeks of sector multiple compression.

Price History and the Expected Move

CLS closed at approximately $260 on October 23, down about 45% from its 2026 high near $474. The three most recent post-earnings day reactions: Q2 2026 gained 10%, Q1 2026 fell 14.4%, Q4 2025 fell 13.1%. Median absolute move: roughly 13%. Implied volatility on the stock has climbed to approximately 136%, more than double the historical average near 64%. An IV rank in the mid-40s suggests above-average, but not extreme, premium. The at-the-money straddle for the October 31 expiration prices in a 12-15% move, consistent with that recent history.

Defined-Risk Structures

Bull case: If you believe revenue clears $5.5 billion with a raised full-year guide, a call spread buying the $270 call and selling the $300 call in the October 31 expiration captures the move while defining the maximum loss to the net debit paid. The conference call on October 27 is the second catalyst.

Bear case: For traders expecting guidance to land at or below the midpoint, elevated IV makes a put spread more efficient than an outright put. Buying the $250 put and selling the $225 put limits the risk while expressing a view that Lam’s precedent repeats: in-line is punished.

Neutral case: An iron condor centered near $260 captures IV crush if the stock stays within a 12% band. The risk is any reaction that matches or exceeds the recent 13-14% downside moves.

Risk and Checklist

The underlying business is not in distress. At $260, CLS trades near 14x consensus 2027 EPS of $18.26. The risk is sector multiple compression, not a Celestica-specific breakdown. What management says about component availability and customer spending cadence on the October 27 call matters as much as the revenue number itself.

  • Size positions against a 13-15% expected move before Monday’s close.
  • Use October 31 expiration spreads to cover the conference call catalyst.
  • A revenue reading above $5.5 billion is the beat that matters most.
  • Watch for any supply chain language echoing Lam’s October 21 warning.
