Intel Lost a Fifth Overnight. Options Didn’t Price It.

INTC priced a ~9.4% earnings move. The stock fell ~23%. What the vol collapse means now.

NASA Is Paying Elon Musk $843 Million to DESTROY a $150 Billion Space Station

It cost $150 billion and took 16 nations 13 years to build.

It is the most expensive object human beings have ever made.

Now SpaceX has been hired for what one outlet calls “the most expensive demolition job ever commissioned.”

But here is the part almost nobody has caught yet.

Elon is NOT building the replacement.

That job is poised to go to a company less than half a percent the size of SpaceX.

It is the real winner in this deal.

Former Wall Street CEO Dylan Jovine has laid out the whole story, including the tiny firm’s name.

Markets don’t need a bad quarter. They only need a bad guide. Intel delivered both Thursday evening, and the options market was caught badly offside.

Intel shares fell about 23% in after-hours trading after the Oct. 29 report, down from the regular session close of $92.07 to roughly $70.87, even as the company reported non-GAAP earnings of $0.52 per share on revenue of about $16.5 billion, both ahead of consensus estimates. The beat was genuine. None of that mattered once management opened the forward outlook.

The Numbers That Moved the Stock

Intel’s third-quarter revenue of about $16.5 billion was up roughly 21% year over year. Client Computing and Physical AI Group revenue fell 5% to $8.1 billion, while Data Center and AI revenue surged 78% to $7.3 billion. The divergence is the whole story: one engine firing hard, the other stalling.

Q4 guidance was the wall. Intel forecast fourth-quarter revenue between $15 billion and $16 billion, below the Street’s prior view around $17.07 billion. On profits, Intel guided non-GAAP EPS of $0.25 versus expectations around $0.43.

Compounding the miss, Reuters reported that an October explosion at Intel’s Kiryat Gat facility killed two employees and seriously injured a third, and CFO David Zinsner said the incident would cost approximately $600 million in lost revenue over two quarters. Intel also said the blast would cut fourth-quarter revenue by about $300 million and pressure gross margins by roughly 200 basis points, with a similar revenue impact expected in the first quarter. Intel expects PC chip revenue to decline in the mid-20% range for Q4.

What the Options Market Priced, and What Happened

This is where the analysis sharpens. Ahead of the report, TipRanks said options traders were pricing roughly a 9.4% move in INTC stock in either direction following earnings. The October 30 at-the-money straddle was priced near $8.90, implying approximately a 9.3% move in either direction. The roughly 23% after-hours decline was about 2.5 times that estimate. The straddle buyer won. Handsomely. The vol seller did not.

Front-week implied volatility on the October 30 expiration ran near 160-170% near the money, rising above 180% at higher call strikes, reflecting a pronounced upside call skew ahead of the report. That skew is now irrelevant. After an earnings announcement, because the uncertainty has been resolved, option premium typically falls sharply in what is known as the volatility crush. Front-week IV is collapsing this morning as that event premium bleeds out. The 30-day IV curve, which was running near 65-70% ahead of the report, is the relevant surface for anyone building a position today.

Structured Trade Framework

Three cases. One stock. One morning-after vol environment.

Bull case: Reuters reported Zinsner said Intel plans to start ramping up production at the Kiryat Gat facility by the end of this week after the two-week shutdown. If wafer salvage proceeds faster than feared and PC demand stabilizes, the $72-$75 area absorbs the guided reset and the data center business at 78% year-over-year growth re-rates the stock. For traders expecting recovery, a defined-risk structure would be a November call spread in the $75/$85 range, limiting downside to premium paid while capturing a reversion move if supply disruption fears overshoot.

Bear case: Reuters reported Intel’s forecast tests investor confidence after a year of sharp gains, as investors weigh ongoing manufacturing constraints and soft PC demand against strong demand for its AI server chips. Reuters also reported Intel warned that weakness in the PC market could persist through the first half of 2027. If Q4 guidance proves optimistic rather than conservative, and the Kiryat Gat restart hits delays, the $55 area cited by some analysts becomes a realistic target. A defined-risk structure would be a November put spread, buying the $72 put and selling the $62 put to cap premium outlay.

7 IPO Prospects to Watch in the Second Half of 2026

The second half of 2026 IPO calendar is taking shape and instead of a scattershot list of early-stage hopefuls, the pipeline includes a handful of large private companies, each dominating a different segment of the economy. Our analysts studied the field and selected the 7 IPO prospects they believe merit close attention heading into the 2nd half of 2026…

Neutral case: If you believe the stock will consolidate between $68 and $80 as the market digests two competing realities, a short strangle on November expiry collects the residual vol premium still elevated relative to the post-crush 30-day curve. This is a defined-risk structure only when paired with long options further out of the money to cap exposure to a second-order move.

Risk Analysis and Forward Outlook

Three risks demand monitoring before any position is sized. First, the Kiryat Gat restart timeline: Intel is still determining which silicon wafers can be salvaged after the explosion, and that assessment directly sets the Q4 and Q1 revenue floor. Second, Reuters reported Zinsner expects the PC slowdown to continue through the first half of 2027, which caps upside in the client segment for at least two reporting cycles. Third, Reuters reported that if Intel were to lose about 23% in Friday’s regular session as well, it would shed more than $112 billion in market value, a figure that can concentrate index selling pressure and extend the drawdown mechanically.

Intel’s data center segment is not trading in isolation. Intel’s place in the AI infrastructure confirmation trade alongside Broadcom and Taiwan Semiconductor shows how the same demand signal reads differently across the chip supply chain.

INTC’s Q4 revenue and EPS outlook underperformed analyst expectations, driven by PC weakness and a major Israeli fab shutdown, even as the data center business showed 78% year-over-year growth. That tension is the core of the forward thesis. Resolve it, and the stock has a credible path back toward $90. Let it fester, and the guide reset compounds into 2027.

Action Checklist

  • Monitor the October 30 regular session open for the realized gap versus the after-hours low; a close above $75 signals stabilization.
  • Track the Kiryat Gat restart update expected by end of this week per CFO comments reported by Reuters.
  • Check 30-day IV versus the post-crush level before sizing any vol-selling structure; front-week premium is spent.
  • Watch PC segment channel checks for any sign the mid-20% Q4 decline assumption is too optimistic or too conservative.
  • If you believe the data center growth story at 78% year-over-year offsets the near-term disruptions, size the bull call spread with premium capped at 2% of portfolio notional.
