Royal Caribbean Beat Estimates for Six Straight Quarters. Today Is the Seventh Test.

RCL reports Q3 before the bell with Wall Street expecting $6.38 per share, but debt maturities and a $3 billion Sandals deal complicate what should be a straightforward demand story.

Why This Stock Now

Royal Caribbean (RCL) reports third-quarter results this morning. The company heads into the call with shares up about 20% over the past month but carrying billions in looming debt payments, a flat-yield quarter, and a $3 billion Sandals deal that raises urgent questions about how it funds its ambitions. That combination of strong momentum and genuine balance sheet complexity makes this one of the more interesting reports of the week.

The Business

Royal Caribbean operates some of the world’s best-known cruise brands, including Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea Cruises. The company’s model depends on keeping ships full at rising prices. On that front, it has consistently delivered. The bigger question lately is whether management can keep expanding the portfolio while simultaneously managing a debt load that predates the pandemic recovery.

Why Wall Street Is Paying Attention

The track record earns attention. Royal Caribbean has beaten the consensus EPS estimate in 7 of its last 8 quarters. Last quarter added to that streak. Adjusted EPS of $4.21 beat the $3.98 consensus. Revenue rose about 6% to $4.8 billion.

The full-year guidance has followed. The company now expects full-year adjusted EPS in the range of $17.73 to $17.87. Wall Street’s 2027 estimate of about $20.13 per share implies another year of double-digit growth. With a trailing P/E of about 17.5 to 17.7, earnings are expected to grow about 13% next year. That is not an expensive multiple for a business with that kind of forward growth.

What’s Driving the Opportunity

Today’s Q3 setup leans favorable. Royal Caribbean is expected to post earnings of $6.38 per share on revenue of $5.61 billion. The Zacks consensus for third-quarter EPS indicates a rise of 11% from $5.75 reported in the year-ago quarter.

Onboard spending is a particularly strong sub-story. Model estimates put third-quarter passenger ticket revenues at 5.8% year-over-year growth to $3.8 billion, with onboard and other revenues rising 14.9% to $1.7 billion. That second figure matters because onboard spending carries higher margins and is harder for competitors to replicate.

For Q3, management guided adjusted EPS of $6.26 to $6.36 on 8.5% capacity growth with about flat net yields, citing a 200 basis point deployment and dry-dock drag that should switch to a Q4 boost. A beat on the top line today could force a full-year guidance raise, which historically has been the catalyst that moves this stock.

What Could Go Wrong

The debt picture is real and cannot be dismissed. On top of its existing leverage, Royal Caribbean said it agreed to pay about $3.0 billion in cash for a 50% equity interest in the business comprising the Sandals and Beaches Resorts. Liquidity was $6.9 billion as of June 30, 2026. Execution on the Sandals integration has not been tested at scale, and any yield disappointment in Q4 could sharply change how that debt burden is perceived.

History also counsels caution after a big run. After Royal Caribbean’s third-quarter 2025 results, the stock fell sharply on the day. A stock up 20% in a month can give back more than the earnings pop delivers, especially when expectations have risen faster than guidance.

The Bottom Line

Royal Caribbean has earned its credibility with consistent execution. The demand environment is intact, the onboard spending trend is accelerating, and the valuation is not stretched at roughly 14 times 2027 estimates. The legitimate concern is the balance sheet, specifically whether the Sandals deal and upcoming maturities require dilutive financing. If management addresses that directly this morning and delivers a Q4 guidance raise, the recent rally has more room. If the balance sheet gets less attention than it deserves, the 20% move may have pulled forward more return than is left.
